Project Description

Eat Street Wharf – Truss Placement

Scope

  • Ecospec were contracted to install an 18m long 2.4 deep Truss weighing 8 tonnes under the Eat Street Wharf at Hamilton on the Brisbane River
  • The wharf required strengthening to support the Eat Street facilities and live load because two piles had been damaged by a tug boat in the 1990’s, and subsequently removed
  • The new truss spans 18m between two remaining piles
  • Ecospec designed and built two pontoons to carry the truss and float it into position from an adjacent wharf
  • The loaded pontoon level was accurately set, and the operation carefully timed to allow the truss to be landed on the support corbels as the tide dropped
  • To accommodate the headroom limitation and tide levels, the truss had to be landed and secured in position within a twenty minute work window.
